What is CARTS?
Central Area Rural Transit System, Inc. is the public transportation provider for the Central Kenai Peninsula. CARTS provides safe, convenient public transportation services within the cities of Soldotna and Kenai, the communities of Funny River, Kasilof, Nikiski, Sterling, and all areas in between. We’re going your way!
Door-To-Door Service
CARTS provides door-to-door service – this means you must meet the driver at the main door, main level or first floor of a building for an escort to the vehicle.
Service Hours
CARTS provides rides Monday through Saturday 24-hours a day, except for observed holidays.
How Do I Make a Reservation?
Make your reservation by calling 262-8900 or download the CARTS Dial-A-Ride App. CARTS office hours are Monday through Saturday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m, except for observed holidays. A list of observed holidays can be found here. Rides need to be scheduled by close of business the day before. Remember, if you need a ride on Monday, your reservation needs to be made by 5 pm on Saturday. Have your trip information ready including addresses and travel times.
Ride Cost
Passengers are charged one punch for each zone traveled through. Quick stopovers (post office, bank etc.) can be made, and will be charged equal to one zone. Each punch is $2.58 (includes tax).
Methods of Payment
All fare payments can be made using a credit card, cash or check. Please remember, drivers DO NOT handle payment transactions.
Transactions can be done at our office on K Beach, via phone, via mail, via website, or via CARTS App.
Effortless Fare Payment with Your CARTS Virtual Wallet
We offer a virtual wallet system, eliminating the need for physical punchcards or tokens. Simply pre-load funds into your account through various methods including our office on K-Beach, mail, website, mobile app, or by phone. When you book a trip, the corresponding fare will be temporarily held in your wallet. Once your trip is complete, the fare is automatically deducted. If your trip is cancelled or not fulfilled, the held funds will be returned to your wallet.
Flexible Payment Options: Link Your Credit Card
For added flexibility, CARTS passengers have the option to link a credit card to their virtual wallet account. This allows for a seamless payment process where a temporary hold is placed on your credit card when you book your trip. Upon completion, the transaction is finalized. If your trip is cancelled or not fulfilled, the held amount will be released back to your credit card within 1-3 business days.
CARTS provides public transportation for everyone. In order for us to serve as many passengers as possible, it is important we all work together to make each trip safe, enjoyable and quick.
